    Digital Wallet

Hi! Did anybody have any luck connecting a Digital Wallet (Minds-at-Work) to a Mac under OS X? Their website says somewhat cryptically that it works under OS X 10.0.1 and 10.0.3 (what about 10.0.2?) At the moment I only have 10.0 and 10.0.4. If somebody succeded with other versions, I...

    It's 10.0.4

Sorry, this message is meant as a reply to the recent new thread "Multiple copies..." below.

    It's 10.0.4

After reverting to OS X 10.0, I didn't see the problem any longer. Of course I don't dare upgrading to 10.0.4 again. It would be interesting to see if anybody else has the same problem, and with which system.

Multiple copies of client machine in "Connect to Server"

After reinstalling 10.0 for other reasons, I see only one instance of the *client* machine in the "connect to" menu. The original post, with multiple machines, referred to OS X 10.0.4. Could some of you readers please check: * Finder->Go->Connect to Server * in the Local Network pane...

Multiple copies of client machine in "Connect to Server"

Hi! I have this bizarre problem. I connect my iMac and PowerBook to a home network which uses SurfDoubler running on a beige G3 with system 8.6. Both the iMac and the PB have 10.0.4. When I do Finder->Go->Connect to Server on the iMac or PB I see *multiple copies* of both the other OS X...

    GNU-Darwin ports not working?

I had a look at the GNU-Darwin site. I believe what you want to do is to install "packages", such as XFree86, tcl, etc. Then you must follow the instructions under gnu-darwin-sourceforge.net/packages/ rather than using configure and make. It looks scary to me, however, as it is in...

    Mac OS X root password

My mistake. I thought I had to give the *root* password for "sudo", instead of the password for the sudo-enabled user. That's why I got a wrong-password error. Thanks for yout help!

    GNU-Darwin ports not working?

Hi dani++, could you refer me to these specialized Darwin ports, please? The GnuPG may be one of them, and it worked for me. It could also be that in some cases it's easier to recompile after configuring the makefile, perhaps as a generic PowerPC (worked for me for textutils).

    Mac OS X root password

Thanks jpc. However, It would be nicer to have a more understandable message, like "You are not allowed to use 'sudo', please contact your administrator" instead of claiming that the correct root password is wrong. Needless to say, I'm the only one using this machine :)

    Mac OS X root password

Hello, I noticed that if I login as a non-administrator and I attempt to "sudo", I get a cautionary message and then the password prompt. If I then enter the *correct* root password, I always get a "wrong password" error. If I login as adminstrator, I can sudo successfully, and I get the...

    GNU-Darwin ports not working?

Hello, before "make" and "make install", you usually have to run ./configure this should recognize your OS X environment and build an appropriate makefile. Occasionally you may have to specify a generic system, e.g. "ppc". I installed successfully the following GNU packages on OS X...

osx wont connect to the internet

Did you click on the "Unlock" button before trying to make changes? You may also want to check the "Modem" pane, select the proper modem script (internal modem). Maybe also check "ignore dial tone". I assume you are using the "connect" application directly. To access the internet from any...

    isdn modem

I got this answer to my query on the Zyxel ISDN TA: Do you use it is OS9? If you do then you already have a script. I use an Acer T50 ISDN TA and what I did was take the script from OS 9.1 change the creater codes to ???? (use Dropinfo, resedit or whatever) dropped it in the library of OSX...

    isdn modem

I have a similar problem with my Zyxel omni.net. I assume you can connect the modem (or TA) to the modem port, like I do. If you are an expert in Hayes commands, you could write the proper script and then convert it with a free utility "modem script generator"...

Newbie Java + Project Builder questions

Yes, PB can drag and drop. You have to drag your selection very slowly to see the effect, otherwise it will expand the selection. Option-drag will duplicate the lines. I noticed that if you drop entire lines, you might overwrite the line after your dropping location, or at least it disappears...

    Software Update 1.3.1 is gone!

Are you missing the entire application, or only the updater? The latter was probably removed automatically. Did you look in the Trash? Myself I am installing 10.0.1 via "Software Update", which updated itself to 1.3.1. a few days ago.

Newbie Java + Project Builder questions

I tried to install jEdit, but instead of the application icon I got a folder. I also tried with MRJAppBuilder, which gave me the clickable icon, but got java exceptions at opening it. Did anybody have the same problem?

    window over menubar & dock

I don't have experience in programming windows, but from working with OS X I would guess that you can't cover the menubar (for sure), and most probably not the dock either. You can hide the dock in the dock preferences, under the Finder menu. The menubar will remain visible until there the Mac...

    Anyone does some C++ Programming?

I ported my 30K-lines SGI C++ code without problems, under OS X Public Beta. Apparently the SGI STL is used automatically, as I had to use the quirky 'algo.h' header. I used the 'c++' compiler in the makefile. The same code compiles under IRIX, OS X, and Mac OS 9/Codewarrior. I hope it still...
