VST Tri Media Reader unde 10.3.4?

Sorry about that.. The link didn't work. I have seen this driver working under 10.3.2. I have had to do a clean 10.3 install, then added the combo updater for 10.3.4. (I've done this with both the G3, and G5). I then download the driver, install it. All seems to go well, here. When I plug...

VST Tri Media Reader unde 10.3.4?

I've tried this link, and it doesn't work. (I downloaded the driver from www.versiontracker.com) I am using a dual 2Gig G5, and a 600mhz iBook. The os is 10.3.4 (7H63) bob..

Only thing that works is the floppy. Tried the latest drivers (v1.01) and it won't work. Anyone? bob..

Best File Serving Solution for Multiple Platforms

There is an Apple Share client for windows. (Windows NT4 or Windows 2000 has it included. Windows XP doesn't) There is a 3rd party package as well, called ExtremeZ-IP from www.grouplogic.com. I've never used it, so I can't comment on it. As for the unix side, NFS is the best way. But you can...

Linux file server, Panther clients with lots of problems

Yup.. NFS export the partitions on the linux box, and have the Mac automount them. You could also create an fstab file and use the niload utility to mount them, as well. Doing this means that you have to setup the other usual files, such as the rhosts, hosts.equiv, passwd and hosts...

Help the Mac Maya community by porting a plug

Maya 6 is now a Mach-O application. That means that XCode can now compile plugins. Woohoo!

    Pixar to switch to Mac

Pixlet was a codec designed at Pixar (with Apple's help). Incidently, I was one of the presenters at the Shake UG. Pixar's reasoning was very sound. But in today's day and age, you often don't have piles of cash to throw around, everytime there is a new computer. I figure that the Mac will...

MacOS X as a NIS (YP) client with NFS mounted /home file system

You want to edit the ypmake make file. (I think the ypmake is a script.) Dig around there. bob..

chmod -R vs. spaces in filenames

You know, about 4 years ago, we wouldn't be talking about chmod, find, xargs, grep, etc. on a Mac. I still shake my head in dis-belief. (In a good way!). Nice solution! I have taken this and added it as an alias in my .cshrc (it works on the SGI/Linux boxes too.) bob..

    will 10.2 break mySQL/Postgres/fink/gimp?

Heheh.. First rule of a production. Never change the hardware/software/OS until the project is finished. :) I've noticed that there is a problem with several open-source packages and GCC 3.x. Depending upon the version of GCC that is used, some packages will not compile. Under 10.1.x, we...

    Project Builder....

The include lines need brackets. eg: #include <iostream> You will have problems in the report() function. Undefined variables i, and j.

    BASH login problem

One more thing.. the "[" character is a part of the prompt. It isn't the problem (I think).. I would remove the space. bob.

    BASH login problem

Howdy! It looks as though your partition name has a space in it. Bash (and unix shells in general) really don't spaces in volume names. Try renaming your volume to "Data_HD" or "DataHD". I suspect that will clear up the issue. bob.

    make & make install

This is a good time to check out the Readme document, or maybe the Install document that might live in the ircII directory. Also, you may have to "configure" the package first. With a large number of opensource packages, they include a "configure" script that modifies the way the compiler...

A quick update.. MacOSX 10.2 comes with the "amd" package. It is a package that comes with Linux. It is a large messy way to do the same thing as AutoFS. bob..

    Unix Jaguar gotchas?

I forgot to mention.. Kernal device drivers won't work under 10.2 unless they were compiled with the new OS. Kernal drivers under 10.1 have to be recompiled to work under 10.2

    Unix Jaguar gotchas?

I know that several shareware developers are fixing things that do break under 6C115. Don't expect all existing SW packages to work right away. By and large, everything works. Mind you I've "upgraded" my PBG4 from 10.1.5 to 10.2 (6C115). It wasn't a clean install. Everything that was...

MacOS X as a NIS (YP) client with NFS mounted /home file system

I've set up NIS and remotely mounted homedirs several times. The information above is good stuff. The bresink.de site is really good for the NIS information! But there are some gotchas with NIS. (I have yet to test these problems with 10.2, but I think the problems would still apply, as...
