Restart tries to launch application on external disk.

I do use it - the version installed on my new system disk - and I don’t want to delete accidentally anything it requires by deleting the version from the old disk.

Restart tries to launch application on external disk.

Running 10.15.7. Whenever I restart, when my desktop appears and gets populated, an alert comes up telling me it wants to launch an application that resides on an external disk. The app is 1Password 7 which IS installed on my system disk, but I do NOT have a launch-at-login for it. Now ...

    mac mail not sending

This happened to me not too long ago. I get some email via my domain host, not my internet provider, and he moved his SMTP services to a new machine. I was still hitting the old machine and was preparing to go ballistic about not getting warned ahead of time, when ... Looking back at messages...

Yet another 'simple' local network question.

Some extra info ... The process is XAMPP-VM (apachefriends.org), a virtual machine that configures itself with a unique IP network and bridges into the host’s network. My LAN is 10.0.101.* and the VM is 192.168.64.*. The VM runs Apache inside itself to handle HTTP requests. The rationale is...

Yet another 'simple' local network question.

My Mac has the Bonjour name 'server.local' and running on it is a process listening on port 8080. I have instructed my router to forward port 8080 to server.local, and it works nicely. $ nc -vz server.local 80 Connection to server.local port 80 [tcp/http] succeeded! $ nc -vz server.local 8080...

    Installing Catalina to external SSD

Thanks, DeltaMac. This all works now, because I learned the hard way an important lesson about my late ‘13 iMac and it may have wider scope. Thou shalt not boot from an external drive unless it is plugged into a USB 3 port on the system itself. I had my drive plugged into a powered USB 3 hub...

    Installing Catalina to external SSD

I’m trying to install Catalina on an empty external 500gb SSD, formatted APFS. My Mac is also running Catalina. I went to the App Store and fetched a copy of the installer, which is now sitting in my Applications folder, all 8gb of it. I start the installer, point it at my external SSD, and...

What's wrong with my web server?

I want my internal network. More info ... I have installed (I think) the ServerPress tool to build and test a WordPress site without actually deploying it. I took its defaults and it created /Users/xxxx/Sites/www.example.dev.cc/ containing README.md blueprint.php index.htm...

What's wrong with my web server?

I have been playing with a local installation of WordPress, which says it turns on Apache and MySQL, and finishes without reporting any errors. But ... When I follow the instructions and point a browser at the resulting fledgling site, say "localhost/Sites/playpen", Safari and Firefox both...

    Bluetooth keyboard slow-down

When it first started, I assumed the battery was low. So I plugged in a lightning charging cord and left it that way. The new iPad uses USB-C charging. But, after a while, it began lagging again. (Is there a way to check the battery for real?) So I spent $20 at Walmart for a bluetooth kb...

    Late Christmas present to myself.

Why? The short answer is, I participate in this forum on Mac issues, but am composing this post on an iPad. The longer answer ... I bought this iMac in 12/14, upgraded RAM and disk in 9/16. In 2/20, the truth is, I’m just not using it much anymore - and at the ripe old age of 71, certainly...

    Late Christmas present to myself.

I bought myself a Raspberry Pi 4 with 4gb RAM and 64gb SD card storage. The kit cost a bit over $100, with case, fan, heat sinks, and cables. After grabbing from my shelves an old monitor, keyboard, and mouse, I followed the directions (Hey, first time for everything) and it’s now on my local...

    Bluetooth keyboard slow-down

I have a brand new iPad Pro 11” running the latest iPadOS. I have been using a Bluetooth keyboard (Apple) for some time now, first on my old iPad Pro 9.7”, now here. For the first time, I start to see a noticeable lag between clicking a key and the character appearing on the screen - after the...

How much space remains on external drive?

I have been playing with hanging a USB external drive on my iPad Pro (Lightning) via a camera adapter. It works - using a powered USB hub. I can copy files to/from it with the Files App. What I haven’t discovered yet is, how much space remains on my external drive?

It seems I never mentioned that I have an iPad Pro 1st gen and want to stay with the Pro line.

USB-C hub dongle with iPad Pro 1st gen

I see on Amazon several USB-C hubs for 2018 iPad Pro. I have an iPad Pro 1st gen. 2016? Do these things work on mine using a Lightning to USB-C adapter? Yes, I am running IOS 13. This relates to my other thread about moving from Mac to iPad. I could use something now, but it would be nice...

    Moving from Mac to iPad

The short answer is YES. I spend much more time on the iPad than the iMac. I agree about the banking apps. That’s why I have pretty much zeroed in on MoneyWiz3. The end result I’m aiming at is a new iPad with a larger screen size, a decent banking app, and PLEX running something hanging off...

    Moving from Mac to iPad

I’m looking to downsize and downprice. A beefy MacBook costs almost as much as an iMac. If there’s no (i)Mac on which to run a PLEX server, how will an adapter help? My bank’s website provides access to transactions and statements, but no help with reconciliations. And a history of about 2...

    Moving from Mac to iPad

I am beginning the inevitable (to me) transition from Mac to iPad. I have been retired for several years and, although I did some consulting, I do not anticipate that continuing. So, why do I need my aging iMac? The list of reasons is short. I have used Banktivity (formerly iBank) for...

Convert data disk to startup disk

Thanks for the info. And, I confirmed my suspicion about TM disks. I formatted a spare disk as APFS. TM sees it and allows me to select it, but it won’t accept it unless I let it reformat it HFS+.
