    iPhoto won't import

Hi, So, I've got back from holiday, and I want to import my photos into iPhoto, but the darn thing won't do it. I've tried my iPod Photo, EOS350D, Ixus 500, and my compact flash card reader, but none seem to work. When I plug a camera in iPhoto will launch (or grab focus), but won't go...

    Mac to use Intel Chips!

Intel denies their chips will have DRM: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23708 Although, I don't see what rights it would take away anyway, your right to pirate software? If the chips do have DRM - it could be the very thing that stops people running OSX on non-Apple machines.

    MS finally give in!

Ah, OK, I'd seen it stated as "3 core" in quite a few places (I'd also thought it was 3-processor until then), and also as a G5 (or "G5 based"). Still, if IBM can get Microsoft a PowerPC chip running at 3.2GHz, what's holding them up on the 3GHz G5?

    MS finally give in!

Apparently the Xbox360 "Dev Kits", are basically just Apple G5's but running a custom Windows based OS. Games will be written using Microsoft DirectX APIs, so won't be that straight forward to port. What I'm interested in though, is the fact that the XBox360, to be launched later this...

Bullring Apple Store (Birmingham, UK) - Opens 29/4/05

Not sure if this has been mentioned already: http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/bullring/week/20050417.html I may pop along, as it's not too far.

    best TV to MAC solution?

I have an eyeTV 410 (for digital terrestrial) and am very pleased with it. It's just a shame I can't say the same for the eyeHome. There are a few features that the eyeTV lacks (and I've even started writing my own interface for it to compensate for this), but it's pretty good all the same...

    Safari or Firefox?

I found it really crawled along (yes, I'd changed the config). It was just stuff like opening a new tab that really killed it. I then used Camino and was amazed at its speed. I am back on Firefox at the moment though (oh, and I much prefer it's default theme to that Safari-a-like...

    Safari or Firefox?

Looks like an uglier version of Safari, which I'm not too fond of the look of anyway. Camino is easily the best looking Browser on the Mac. Also, does it change buttons and drop downs to Apple ones? (and by that I mean the ones in forums). Still, no matter what it looks like, I'm sure it...

    Safari or Firefox?

I'm just not happy with any of the browsers I've tried in OSX, here is a quick list of pros/cons I consider each I've tried to have (my opinions, from my experience): Safari: pros: - 'As you type', spell checker cons: - Interface is a bit bulky - Lack of features/options Camino...

    Flying to Italy-Metal Detectors...

Just make sure you take it in your hand-luggage though. Although the scanners won't damage it in anyway, I can't say the same for the baggage handlers.

Connect To Server - reset password?

On the Mac. I'm afraid I don't know where to change them directly, only to do it as I described, which is a bit of a pain really. It also means you need a different server to try an connect to, although I guess you might be able to try changing the IP address on the other machine.

Rescuing data from a physicall damaged drive

Pah, I've got a can of spray air, that'll be enough to blast all the dust out won't it? Especially if I go for the 'make your own clean room in your bathroom' approach. I doubt I'll risk it though, I'll just save up the £200+ quid to get it done by the professionals. Also, annoyingly...

Rescuing data from a physicall damaged drive

and would it be complete madness (or impossible) for me to buy a new drive, disassemble the two, and switch the read heads from the new one into the old one? A new drive is at most just half the cost of getting it recovered by any data recovery company I've come accross.

Rescuing data from a physicall damaged drive

Hmm, well Data Resucue reports the drives as 0 bytes, and says: "Cannot recover this volume: this volume is empty" and trying the dd method BobW linked to gives a load of "Device is not configured" errors, and seems to be creating a massive file of nulls (and nothing else) as the output...

Cheers Bob, that looks like it may well work. Right, now to put the knackered disk back in this machine!

Rescuing data from a physicall damaged drive

Well, just before starting this thread I'd sent a query to ProSoft asking if it worked on physically damaged disks, and just before your reply I got an answer back saying that it didn't. However, I've also searched Google and found a few reports of it working on physically damaged drives...

    iTunes subscription service

That would be bad. If it was some kind of Pay-per-play service, or similar, that would suck! If it was something like pay €X a month for N downloads, or €Y a month for M downloads, then that'd be great (as long as the X:N or Y:M ration was good enough).

    iTunes subscription service

To me, the article seems to suggest they might offer a Subscription service alongside the current model. Personally I need to know more about the service before deciding if I thought it was good or bad, some models for a subscription based service would be good for me, others wouldn't. I...
