    Open Transport & Remote Access

I'm nowhere *NEAR* the geek I wish I was (and which others who know me think I am). Therefore, this may sound stupid, but...With OS X, is Open Transport/PPP still used/needed? How about Remote Access (to connect to Earthlink)? Many TIA.

    iDisk

You (and everyone else who tried to help me) are a *genius* (or else I just need a brain upgrade)! Thank you, one and all! :)

    iDisk

What am I doing wrong? I've ordered OS X v. 10.1, and it should be in my hands by tomorrow. In eager anticipation, I visited Apple's web-site & set up an iDisk/iDisk account. Then, I entered my password. This took me to the Open your iDisk' page. Whether I click on the iDisk button in the...

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

Ummm...nope. Not for me. Apple must hate me. Went to Go--->Apple - iTools - iDisk, which brought me to the iTools page; clicked on Open My iDisk (or whatever)...no dice, even after I entered my password.

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

1.) apple.com/idisk - CHECK 2.) Log in - NOPE! Got no prompt to log in; 3.) Clicked on iDisk icon in the upper right just for the heck of it. 4.) Saw my login name but didn't/couldn't mount my iDisk, even after entering password HERE. Back to the drawing board.

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

Well, after all was said and done, I finally took the plunge this afternoon. I've ordered Mac OS X v. 10.1. It should be in my hands 10/9. In anticipation of this, I went to the Apple site & set up an iTools/iDisk account. At that time, somehow, somewhere. I downloaded the iTools Installer and...

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

    >On the subject of price, are you in college or know someone who is? If so >Apple will cut the price down to I beleive $70 for students. Unfortunately, I'm well beyond the usual 'in college' age. $70 sounds *really* nice. Of course, I suppose I shouldn't complain too loudly. The $140 or so...

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

Assuming I have the $130 for OS X, v 10.1 (and the $12 s/h charge, according to MacConnection's website), is there any really good reason I should upgrade my system from 9.0.4 at this time (other than to help the recession economy)? Thanks.

    partition size suggestions

I'm on an iMac DV Special Edition/400 MHz. I've set up my hard drive partitions in the following way: 4.25 GB = Mac OS 9.0.4 (just the OS) 4.25 GB = Applications (basically, everything except OS 9.0.4) 4.25 GB = OS X (future installation of OS X) Comments are welcome.

    Why would someone not upgrade?

I've got pieces of OS X Beta still on my iMac DV SE/400 & when I try to delete them, an error message says 'OS X Beta cannot be put in the Trash' or some such thing. I just got finished formatting my hard drive because of this. If there's no way to remove the (now completely empty and inactive)...

Webshots & random desktops at start-up

Thanks, roger. Looks like quite a few hoops to jump through to randomize. Maybe I'll just change the desktop picture manually, unless there's an easier way. Again, thanks for your reply.

Webshots & random desktops at start-up

Is it possible to use Webshots or Appearance to select a random desktop picture at start-up? Thanks.:)

    X Beta to X

Previously, I had OS X Beta on my iMac DV Special Edition/400 MHz. Since I didn't use it all that often, I recently tried to delete it, following the instructions in Mac Addict magazine. However, there were some parts of he Beta which refused to be deleted, saying stuff like 'OS X cannot be put...
