    Running Linux on your Mac

While most of this is true, your bootloader isn't going to be either LILO or GRUB... For an Old World PPC machine you'll use BootX. For a New World machine, use YaBoot  .

    Pull up a chair

I used the Aeron at my former job. One negative thing I noticed was that; if you carry your wallet in your back pocket (as I, and some of my coworkers do), the hard plastic area around the seat frame of the Aeron would cause a wear mark on our pants. I'm built on the heavy side; but many of my...

    anything to bear in mind?

Now is probably a good time to buy. Apple won't upgrade the 17" until at least the end of the year, if then. I do agree that most of us will have to pay some amount for Panther, once it's released.

Palm IIIxe : HotSync / iSync issues...

You didn't mention what Mac you're trying this on, but you may want to check with Palm to see if a USB cradle/cable is available for your PDA. I suspect this may have something to do with your problem.

    EyeTV Observations

I did a search of the forums for this and didn't find anything... I took the plunge and bought the EyeTV module from El Gato Software. Here's how it's going so far: * It's a very simple package, with easy installation and setup. The software update from El Gato was painless also. * I've...

Ok, thanks! This was the info I was looking for. :)

    Always - on internet security

I'm running MacOS X, almost exclusively now. I have a cable internet connection and was wondering; what is the safest state to leave my Mac in when I'm not using it (overnight, while at work...)? I've noticed that the machine doesn't really go to sleep when I logoff, but I wonder if it's just...

    Palm Desktop 4.0 final released!

I really like the Palm m515. Maybe I could sell off my Visor Edge, with all the modules and pick up a m515 :). Palm does have better build quality than Handspring IMHO. Palm's expansion cards are less expensive too; hmmm...

    Palm Desktop 4.0 final released!

It finally does a full backup of the databases from my Visor Edge (something none of the betas did). It does not install the 4.0 OS on the Visor though... gotta wait for Handspring to get their act together for that to happen, I guess  .

    New iMac - In Person...

A strange note about the MP3's in iTunes... My iBook (bought last fall) came with 121 preloaded titles (not all of which are music). My new iMac only came preloaded with less than 20 music titles:confused: . True, it's easy enough to load the other titles up to the iMac, but not if I'd...

Need help w/ speakers and new iMac

Nope; there is no switch on the iSub at all, so you'd have to unplug it from the USB port if you don't want to use it with headphones. Seems a shame for a $60 sub-woofer, but that's the way it is for now. I only paid about $75 for my Monsoon flat panel speakers, with a sub-woofer and the s/w has...

Best Hard Drive Replacement For PowerBook G4

For the external solution; you may also want to check out Wiebetech. I've gotten good support from them: http://www.wiebetech.com They've got 2.5" & 3.5" enclosures; mine has both FireWire and USB2.0.

1000 Songs in your Pocket (Yeah Right!)

Are you playing songs that are extended in length (8-15 min+)? Any single title that is long enough will cause the HD in the iPod to spin longer, exhausting its battery quicker. I would suggest getting an auto charger, so you can keep it charged in transit (or remember to charge the unit...

New FireWire hard drive won't remount

Well, the only little bug I've got now is that; from OS 9 I can choose any of the FireWire partitions to boot from. However, none of those partitions show up in the Startup disk panel for OS X. I may be able to fix this myself, say with using fdisk at a terminal to make any one of the partitions...

New FireWire hard drive won't remount

I didn't need to install a driver to use the FireWire enclosure on the OS X side, but I went to the OS 9 side and installed the driver there. Then I was able to see the partitions I'd created. When I rebooted back into OS X and cycled the power on the hard drive, the partitions were back there...

    Upgrade OS on Visor Deluxe?

I'm pretty sure the flash module would still have to interact with the base system, so I'd say it wouldn't work. Handspring has the different physical hardware, which would make a big enough difference that the two OS's don't have parity. With Handspring's announcement of going all wireless...

New FireWire hard drive won't remount

I bought a FireWire enclosure for my iBook and put an extra HD in it. The install went pretty well (I don't like using the OS X version of Drive Setup to partition the disk though:mad: ). After the partitioning I put a bunch of files on the paritition I made for MacOS storage. Other partitions...

    I need your thoughts...

Kind of a rule of thumb that I've found... Handspring models for ultimate expansion (I love the springboard modules  ). Palm models for quality build and the latest PalmOS compatability. I had a PalmIII before the Visor Edge I have now. No complaints, except for the amount of memory...

    Baby steps in C++

I'd suggest that you check out a few books on the subject. Deitel & Deitel has at least one good book (and CD, if you have access to a PC). O'Reilly has come on board with Learning Carbon, and there are some good Mac specific programming materials available also. Lots of good tutuorials on the...
