How many Macs do you have?

I have two (a dual 500 G4 tower and an iBook)... unless you count the Mac Classic in the garage. Of course, I can't even count the total number of Macs I've had since my late arrival to the Mac scene in 1985.

    Vote for Mac on CNN

I suspect that CNN tracks unique votes not by browser type, but rather by the "CNNid" cookie that you are given the first time you visit CNN.com. So I voted a few times from Safari, deleting the cookie each time. Of course, they could also limit to one vote per IP address, but that would only...

    Can't kill process

In my case it was not a zombie. It just wouldn't die... until sometime in the night. This morning it was gone. Perhaps one of my kill commands finally reached it.

    Can't kill process

What can be done about a process that refuses to be killed? In my case it's Adobe Acrobat. It's not responding and does not die in response to either a "kill" command from the terminal or the usual force quit. Any ideas? Thanks!

Safari Features - Password storing, status bar, all included

Safari autocompletes just fine for me. Of course, the URL you want it to complete must be in your history or bookmarks.

I found an Easter Egg in 10.2!

This is definitely from Interface Builder... and you can prove it if you have the Developer Tools installed. Here's how: Go to /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ Control-click (or right-click) on "SharingPref.prefpane" and select "Show package contents". From there, dig down through...

    Jaguar shipped!

If I'm not mistaken, there is a FedEx distribution center in both Cordova and in Middleton, PA (where mine was shipped from). By shipping from regional dist. centers, Apple is probably save a ton in shipping costs.

    Jaguar shipped!

I finally got a shipment notice. It was shipped yesterday (Wednesday) by Fedex 2 Day from Middleton, PA, so I'll have it sometime tomorrow!

    Jaguar shipped!

Nearly the same here, although I did receive a message on Sunday saying it would ship Wednesday or Thursday. I wonder if they are waiting until last to ship the student discount orders -- It seems that they have already shipped orders placed in the past week, but ours (which we ordered the day...

    New PowerMacs released!

Although I have not experienced the extreme problems that Ed has, I cannot count the number of zip disks that have died on me, their final breath always being the "click of death". I have an internal zip drive in my G4 Tower (Graphite), but I have only used it a few times the past year. But...

    Jaguar Shipping

According to a report at Think Secret (http://www.thinksecret.com) Jaguar is already shipping to resellers. Apparently (although not specifically stated in the report) at least some have already received the shipments. It is stated that the OS X 10.2 package includes two install CDs and the...

    Duo 2300 -> Titanium

Do you want to do this just once, or regularly? You could get the two connected on an ethernet network by using a scsi to ethernet adapter with the duo (here's one one ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2024694820). Farralon also used to make one. If you're just...

The stupidity of the general public!

I, like scruffy, have always thought "could care less" to be incorrect usage. As it turns out, scruffy is right on about the sarcasm. From The American Heritage Book of English Usage: I could care less! you might say sometime in disgust. You might just as easily have said I couldn't care...
