[HOWTO] Simultaneous User Environments via VNC

This capability really is incredibly useful (I've only just caught up with this posting). Do you - or anyone - know if anything similar is possible with a Win XP system? If not, this is a tremendous plus point for OSX.

Help needed big time w/ virtual switch on VPC 6

    1. In the VPC Preferences, The "Virtual Switch" preference should be set to "default". 2. In the settings for the specific PC you are configuring (i.e., the PC identified in the Virtual PC List) select "settings" then select "networking" and set to "Enable networking" with the Virtual Switch...

    hidden files

If you install TinkerTool, it will enable you to set the Finder to "see" hidden files. You can download it from VersionTracker. Or there are other shareware products which will perform similar functions (such as "Invisible Finder").

    OS X Memory Problem

How big are your partitions? In particular, how big is your System (boot) partition and how much free space is there on that one? In my view (and I know some will disagree with this), you are actually helping to cause the problem you're seeing by partitioning. With OSX, it is much better to...

    Virtual PC 6

You should find VPC 6 is fine running on the config you have. Make sure you've downloaded the latest update from Connectix (which should bring you up to VPC 6.0.1). You should not need to set up a separate HD partition. Just install VPC in your Applications folder and take it from there. I have...

    XDarwin, WindowMaker, and Fonts

I have installed XDarwin, WindowMaker, The Gimp, and OpenOffice and all seem to work well (OSX 10.2.2) However... I have noticed that the full set of Fonts which I see in "normal" OSX Applications don't seem to have made to the XDarwin environment. Certainly, The Gimp and OpenOffice don't see...

    static noice when trashing

I hear this too, but I have assumed it is some sort of "audio feedback" from the Finder to let you know what you just did. You could certainly get the same effect in OS9 but it was configurable. I've not looked to see if you can switch it off in X.2.2, I've just got used to it. I suggest you...

    fix_prebinding failures

It's good to know how to fix pre-binding failures either via XOptimizer or Terminal, but I would like to know why these pre-binding failures are occurring in the first place. There's no doubt there are more of these messages in the log since upgrading to 10.2.1 from 10.1.5 (at least for me)...

    More ranting on Mail

Karavite, I absolutely agree with you. I have posted very similar thoughts to yours on other forums - including Macfixit. I am an IT consultant working with (mainly) PC users but some Macs as well. I only own Macs myself and rely on VPC for my PC/Windows capability where absolutely essential...

    More ranting on Mail

I've only just caught up with this thread, but I can explain what's happening with attachments (in fact, Tigger, put his finger on it earlier on in this thread). When you send attachments (any attachment) using Mail.app it sends them encoded as "AppleDouble". This will be seen by a PC user...

Good UK ISP for OS X?

I use BTInternet and have done for many years with no problems. 7x24 "Anytime" dial-up service for flat monthly fee. Changing my system over to OSX did not seem to make any difference at their end.
