10.2.7!!!???

Your eyes do look a little fuzzy?!
Newest Macs ship with 10.2.7
Apparently it's only to allow that new hardware to ship. 10.2.7 will not be an available upgrade, 10.2.8 has been released once (but it's Apple's bad, pulled for various reasons) and will likely be released again (when???)

As far as I know 10.2.7 was released only for G5 systems so that OS X ran properly with the new processor. For the rest of us G3 and G4 users, 10.2.8 is available for download right now from Apple's web site. A G5 version is available too, but why the skipped 10.2.7 for G3/G4 users I'll never understand :o

A "Mac user since System 6" should be able to remember several times that Apple has released a specific OS version for new hardware ( Quadra AV systems, first PowerMacs, the PowerMac 8100/110, many systems have shipped with OS installs that wouldn't work with other Macs (and still do) Maybe only a couple of times with specific different number versions, but unique, nonetheless.

As was mentioned, 10.2.7 was shipped with several new hardware types, not just the G5. This included, to my knowledge, new 12, 15, and 17" powerbooks.

A fixed 10.2.8 is now available for all systems, if I'm not mistaken.

A couple different builds of 10.2.7 were released, one with the G5's and one with the new Powerbooks, which should be capable of upgrading to 10.2.8 while the G5's aren't, I believe.

The G5's are capable of upgrading to 10.2.8. Apple has a version for the G5's.
