all services grayed out - how to enable???

quiksan

awesomer...
so i've been trying to use Services, but can't. they're ALWAYS grayed-out. I select text, for example, and go to services, textedit, and then it's just gray. I can't select anything.
How do I enable these services? I can't use any of them.

here's a screen cap
attachment.php

thanks!

The application has to be specifically written to take advantage of Services, or, it has to be written in Cocoa with Services-compatible code.

Try it with Safari or Mail or an Apple application.

Services work in COCA Applications (look in your MAC OS X Help for "Mac OS X architecture"). So, if we use the example of your attachment, the Service for TextEdit, open TextEdit and write a word, highlight it, then go to Services->TextEdit. I hope this helps.

If you want access to services and you like FireFox then give Camino a try. It is cocoa and uses the same gecko rendering engine as Firefox. It is still in beta, probably having been pushed to the back of the queue by Firefox and the fact it is a much bigger rewrite that the carbon Firefox and Mozilla but still a nice browser and well worth a look.
