Firewire is possible, fill your harddrive on another mac with the os and put it back in will work.

Good luck, Kees

Just remember that pre-Intel Macintosh computers (Macintosh computers with PowerPC processors) cannot boot from USB -- only from FireWire.

The Intel-based Macintosh computers, I believe, can boot from both.

I only managed to boot up some PowerPC G4 or Macpro G5 using my PowerBook G4. It is very strange that i can't boot up some other unit of G4 that more or less the same spec ?

If you have the original PowerMac G4, which does not have an AGP video slot, and just PCI slots only, then that's quite normal not to boot to the FireWire bus. That model can't boot to FireWire. Any later models can, assuming an operating system supported by that model. Any G4 can boot to 10.4, for example.

I have a few unit of PowerMac G4 loaded with Mac OS X 10.4.10. All of them have almost the same spec as they are purchased at the same time with the same vendor. I am very surprise that i can't boot up some unit while i can do with the other. All machines have AGP and PCI slots in them.

When i try to boot up the target machine by holding "T" key during startup, the target machine run for a short while and power off itself. It does not make it to target disk mode. I also try boot up using "Target Disk Mode" in System Preferences and disable "Open Firmware Password" (which i found on Apple website.) Unfortunately non of those method works. :(
