Ok My Aunt Gave Me A PowerBook G4 And She Can`t Remember The Password To Login And I Can`t Boot From Cd To Reset The Password
The Powerbook G4 Is Runing Mac OSX If Any One Can Help Me Thanks
In Advance

I wonder whether the install disc is the one that came with the PowerBook?

Apple packs install discs that are particular to that item of hardware (i.e. I couldn't use my iBook install discs to install MacOS X onto my G4 tower).

Might be worth checking that out with your aunt (generous lady).

The Discs That I`m Useing Are My Cousins He Lent Them To Me
To See If I Can Reset The Password. Is There Any Other Way To
Reset The Password Without Booting From The CD Thanks Again

No, there is no way to reset the password without booting from the CD -- if there were an easy way to defeat the password protection, what good would password protection be?

You need to acquire a set of CDs or DVDs that is compatible with that model of PowerBook. I would recommend purchasing a retail set of Tiger DVDs. The disks your cousin lent you are probably grey-colored disks that are specific to a certain model of Macintosh, and it probably isn't a PowerBook -- can you confirm?

I Don`t Know I Hold Down The C Key And It Just Boots Up From The Hard Drive
Try booting with the install disk in the drive and holding down the Option key instead of the C key. I have recently become aware that with some Apple DVDs/CDs that will work when the C key will not.

The Discs Colors are One White With Blue X One Grey With White X And One
White With Orange Nine. And I Tryed Holding The Option key Only Thing That
Comes Up Is A Pic Of The Hard Drive

truth is, there is a way to get the pw or reset it w/out the cd, but it requires mucking around in unix in s-user mode, and exsteive unix and hexadecial knowlege, and another computer. i have seen some web articales on the subject, but none that flat out tell you how to do it, just that it can be done. i looked becasue someone else needed to know as well, and that was all i found.

Those are discs that shipped with another Mac and are unlikely to work. The retail Tiger DVD is jet black with a light silver grey X. You need the retail DVD.

Hi to all

I have the same problem, but a lil bit different ...

When I press and hold C, it starts and when it must boot, it just freezes, and I can see pixels gone wierd ...

And when I press and hold Option button, it shows me Hard Drive and Mac OS install CD 1, I click on CD, and right arrow,
then I see grey apple, and after ~5 sec appears grey forbidden image ø .. and freezes like that :( :( :(

P.S. This is PowerBook G4

Any help apreaciated !

The "forbidden" symbol indicates the copy of the OS that is on the CD is not bootable on your computer. It may be any one of the reasons already discussed in this thread or it may be a damaged disc.

Well, thanks for your reply, now I understand that I need another install CD/DVD ...

This CD was burnt with CloneCD image (.img and .cue files), which image was backed up from a Mac OS X CD !

Can you tell me if it is possible to burn the .dmg file (DVD image of Mac OS Tiger) with any of Windows applications/softwares ?
As I have not got another Mac with DVD-RW here :(

Thanks again,
beq

I know it, but

I already got the image file (from the licenced Mac OS Tiger DVD of this laptop from my friend who had it),
so need just to burn it ... But don`t know which software to use to burn it in Windows !

That`s all :)

I believe you can use Nero to burn DMG files in HFS or HFS+ format, but I am not sure if the resulting disk will be bootable or not.

That copy of Mac OS X you have as a DMG file is not a legal license for your machine. Since your friend is already using it, it would be illegal for you to use it as well. I just gotta reiterate what others have said and say get yourself a retail copy of Tiger and all would be solved.

Ok then,

Tell me where to get that retail copy of Tiger if possible,

and thanks again for your replies !

Best Regards,
beq
