Condition: Check Battery

Anyone know what this means? I do "About this Mac", then pick "More Info", then pick "Power". In the Battery Information, there is a small stanza Health Information: Cycle Count: 249, Condition: Check Battery

I've done the Apple Portables: Calibrating your computer's battery for best performance twice in the past two days. The battery does not last very long at all and I've already purchased a new battery but I thought I'd try and keep this one and get it back in as good of shape as I can. Maybe use it as a backup or something.

The Mac is a Mac Book Pro 15" 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.5.8.

Thank you,

Sounds like you would like the free dashboard widget iStat Pro.

Plus how old is this Mac? If it is not that old then the battery sounds as if it was a lemon.

Most lithium batteries before this year were able to retain 80% of their capacity after 300 discharge cycles. Every time you use your battery any percentage of its capacity and then charge back to full, that percentage of a cycle gets counted. The common recommendation is to connect your MacBook to power whenever available in order to lengthen the life of the battery. More info in this guide.

I still have the same question... what does "condition: check battery" mean? Anyone know?

Usually, the cycle count will be high, the Maximum charge will be low, and you won't expect a charge to last as long as it has in the past.
So, it's time consider replacing the battery - hence, the condition: check battery message. Sounds like you have already purchased a replacement, so, it's time to retire the old one, as it is no longer trustworthy.
