idvd 4.0.1 on leopard

I just upgraded someone's mac to leopard 10.5.6, and the only program I'm having trouble with is iDVD. It says it is not supported on this OS version when I run it, but there is also no update available for it to make it compatible,

Is apple really making people re-purchase software to be compatible with the osx 10.5 they just purchased? Or is there some way around this?

Thanks.

iDVD 4 is nearly 5 years old. It is probably not compatible with Leopard.

When you upgrade an operating system, then you may also have to upgrade the software that runs under the operating system -- this is a given with any system. If you wish to use older software (especially software that is 5 years old), then I would recommend sticking with an older operating system.

As a rule of thumb, the farther the gap between the operating system and the software that you're trying to run, the more problems and incompatibilities you will run into.

Apple's not "forcing" anyone to do anything -- upgrading the operating system was your choice, not something that was forced upon you. If you wish to continue to use iDVD 4, then roll back the operating system to the one that it was originally running under.
