:confused:hi guys ,
I purchased a new hard drive today , i went to use the startup disk on the system to install osx , only to find the new drive is not showing up at all .

I think the first place to start is compatibility

old :

WD3200AAJS - 4ORYA0 ( 320 gb)

New :

WD500AAKX (500gb)

I figure it's not a format issue , even then the drive should atleast show?

Both are western digital . appreciate any input , cheers.

Ok well i thought i would be able to do that from the original installation disc , but i can't because the HD is not showing , what is the easiest way to accomplish this ? Via nother mac? Thanks for your reply !

In most cases you can partition and format a new drive from the install DVD.
From the DVD first main screen, in the top menu bar, check "Utilities".
What you are looking for is "Disk Utility", the drive should show in Disk Utility and let you format it.

When you boot the install disk, select "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities" menu.

Then, ensure you've selected a GUID partition format, and partition away. The install should proceed normally after that.

Glad I could help, and just in case ElDiablo still has his ears plugged and can't hear, I'd be willing to bet he's happy to have been able to help also.;)
