using osx for some time now on a powerbook,
I got this g3 266 with 96 ram and try to install osx, first start instalation and hang there, then I try from os9 with sposxfacto and did the same.
then I went and install osx on my powerbook the hard drive as a firewire.
swap HD to g3 and after that dosen't boot any more.
I have tried swap pram and I think is call the sudo booton next to the pci slot without succsess.
I have tried start from cd with os9 osx but nothing.
wen I enter as a command line pressing apple+option+o+f I get to open firmware 2.4 with options of bye or start normal.
I also changed the battery.
any advise.
thanks

Did you repartition your drive & format before trying the install of X?

Also, you better go grab some ram quick if you want to run X on that beige...at least another 256mb, though 512mb more would be even better.

but When the problem started when I intaslled the hard drive of my power book g4 on the g3 desktop

I have tried to do everything I could (one week wasting time now) I have repartition the disk but it doesnt start from cd

Sure, I'll ask the question! How do you swap a PowerBook hard drive into a PowerMac? I'm guessing this is a clone copy from PB to the beige G3. Did you use some kind of cloning process (like Carbon Copy Cloner)? A simple file copy will never work (without some careful file permission work) You also won't get far without more memory.

I was going to ask the same thing...

Ok, so you repartition the g3 drive (with the 8gb rule accounted for), format, then install OS X. I trust you used the disc utility off the X install CD for this. What happens then? How far do you get...does it install, will it boot, etc.

I just take out the powerbook hard drive and install the powermac as a external firewire and install osx on it .
it was booting on my pbook but when I swapped it to my pmac problem started.
I have tryed to clone my powerbook hd with carbon copy but it didn't boot.
the thing now is that look like it is not recognizing the cd's any more.
I wander if in the prosess it have changed the rom or somthing like that.

First I'd quit trying to clone the drive. A regular install should work just fine with the g3 drive and your install CD.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I don't think you can boot off a FW HD. Especially since the beige doesn't have FW as a factory option, so if you're using it with your beige then it has to be through a 3rd party add-on card.

Also, the beige G3 machines require that the OS X installation be within the FIRST 8GB of the drive, and the partition that you install OS X on cannot be larger than 8GB. If you took a hard drive out of your PowerBook and the OS X installation on the PowerBook hard drive was located on a partition larger than 8GB, then that could be your problem.
