Booting an OS X .dmg on a PC would be useful, if you want to install OS X on that PC.

When Apple moved to Intel processors, OS X on other motherboards became more "doable"
Folks seemed to really like to run OS X on a variety of netbooks, for example, giving a usable Mac system, for minimal cost.
It's still a big challenge, because of the enormous variety of hardware combinations that you might find on those "non-Apple" systems.
