Legacy Extension: Canon message. OK? no. :-)

I have a 2015 Canon Camcorder I use occasionally. In fact, I'm going to be using it for an important recording in a month (June 2025). I have gotten this message a couple times. I had a Canon printer 20 years ago.

I have gone to Canon.com and spend time "Just simply" trying to get any info and there is none. Of course, there are many ways to buy Canon products on the site, but 10 years is just too long ago for tech support from Canon.

I have searched for "Legacy Extension: Canon" in the libraries, in the HD, I've searched just for the word "Canon" and I've searched extensions. The only thing I have found is this in System Report. Question: Am I suddenly not going to be able to upload video from the camcorder one day into iMovie? (I'm saving on a SD Extreme at the moment instead of saving in the camera). And I've had no issues, but I have gotten this message over the past couple months, maybe longer. Is there some place to look (hidden?) to delete something? As I say, there's no info from Canon to update anything. PS I do not have a Canon EOS nor do I ever recall connected one to any computer I've owned in the past 20 years.

thanks.... Gary

You do have a couple of options.
1) Do not upgrade to the next future version of Mac OS. At least until you are done with your project.
2) Check to see if Canon (or Apple) has an updated driver for the camera.
3) Disable the CanonEOS 1D driver. (you can move it to a folder that is not in the system folders) and then see if your camera still works on your Mac. It could very well be that when you had originally installed the driver for your camera, it included drivers for several other models. HP use to do that with their printers.

I'll check all that out. Since the CanonEOS is not a device I ever owned, I doubt it had anything to do with the camcorder. The Canon website software drivers for the Vixia Cam say, "nope. nothing to see here. Please try again" No, seriously, it says there isn't anything that says "Please try again." I thought that was humorous.

I can point out that the Canon driver that you found is not the Canon file that you might be looking for. You will note that it is listed as an Apple-supplied driver, and signed by Apple (not Canon-signed), so you would be looking for a driver signed by Canon, and it may even show there in the driver details that it is signed by Canon, maybe even with extra info showing that the driver is signed by a "Legacy Developer: Canon".
I won't try to offer any suggestion about how to find the actual driver that is mentioned by the system, other than to suggest that the driver details give you a clue about why you get the compatibility notice. "64-Bit (Intel): No" ... So, the driver is not 64-bit. Probably 32-bit, which will no longer work if you decide to update to macOS Catalina.
What macOS system are you using on this Mac? If you are still using Mojave (MacOS 10.14 or older), a 32-bit driver may still work,
Of course, you now know that driver (for CanonEOS) is for a camera that you have never used with your Mac, so working, or not, is not really an issue--at least for that CanonEOS camera. And, that may or may not affect whatever Canon drivers need to be used.
Might be worth your time to check your Canon Camcorder (whatever it is) with your present system, just to make sure THAT still works, and to check at Canon's website for possible software updates that you might need for your Camcorder...(?) (If your above post about "Vixia Cam" is what you have already, then you should be good to go... ) If the CanonEOS driver is all that you found on your Mac - that should not affect other Canon devices, and would only come into use if you decide to plug in a CanonEOS camera, which you have said you have never owned. You may safely continue to ignore that Apple-supplied driver.
