Letting em' Run

Uber Nothing
Due to a freak internet accident where my wireless D-Link router no longer works with my cable modem, I've been forced to share the internet between my two Macs using AirportX cards. I was just wondering if it would somehow harm my eMac by letting it run basicly all day, so that I would have a constant internet connection on both computers. I've heard that leaving it on except for maybe shutting down once a week is OK, is this true?

About the only time I ever restart my computer is if something goes funny and I cant find some other explanation, or when the OS is updated. And I have the folding@home client installed, so my processor is always maxed out. Haven't seen any problems yet :)

I've even let my PB run for several weeks without restarting or letting it sleep without a problem. Sure, the hardware gets "older" more quickly (think of it as doing more mileage with a car in shorter time...). But you're talking only about until you get another WiFi router or something, right?

Then it's no problem at all. You could leave it running without problems for years, I guess. Just make sure the machine doesn't go to sleep.

Thanks for your input. :D

Oh yeah, and do you know anything about the final Pather update, Fryke? Like when they are going to release it? I'm just curious.

There just was another build Friday night. (See macnews.net.tc for 'details', not much known...) It should've been released last week, but they just really, really, really want to make sure they don't have to back to the drawing boards and think of a 10.3.10. ;)

I've had my G4 running for 5 years pretty much non stop besides reboots for system updates and when OS 9 used to freeze on me :D, and the occasional power outage.

Seems there might be problems with the Safari build in 10.3.9 already. Some people say that it won't start after the update

EDIT: oops G4 running for 5 years not G5 :p

That's totally contrasting what the average-joe PC user would tell you about shut-downs. lol.... I'm almost certain that if you left a PC running for 5 years straight it wouldn't be running at all :p

I just updated, and Safari is running fine for me, I don't know what other people are experiencing.

The Safari crashes (me included) had to due with a plugin called AcidSearch and a plugin folder in Library->Application Support->SMBL. This would caush Safari to crash upon start.

Now some people are having some Java trouble with Safari too. I have not seen this though. Others are reporting that just re-installed Java 1.4.2 Update 2 fixes the problem, or the re-installation of this Security Update fixes the Java problem.
