Loose Powerbook audio jack problem

has a mac beyond repair
Ok. I could live with this for awhile, but now it's just a total PITA. My powerbook audio jack doesnt work if you just plug in headphones. You have to shove a Sharpie marker (just the right size!) underneath it to have the physical jack press against the powerbook in an upwards position to have the music come out of headphones/speakers/etc. Is this a known problem? Anyone else have it? Can it be fixed by apple for free because its a defect or something? Thank you.

Yeah my applecare ran out. I wanted to know if anyone else has it or if its a known defect

Nope, not a known defect anywhere in Apple's knowledge base, and that's what they'll reference when deciding whether or not to fix it for free.

If you do a Google search for "powerbook loose audio jack" then one or two reports comes up, but one or two reports doesn't constitute a problem, unfortunately.

you just need to solder the jack to the board again i guess.
had that problem with the powerjack of my powerbook.
i was able to get my hands on a pdf which in detail explained how to completely take it apart. problem for me was, that the powerboard of the pismo is the very last part you take out, so my desk was completely filled with parts, before i could finally take-out the powerboard and solder the thing back again.
i opened my titanium a couple of times for harddisk and memory upgrades, but would't go any further without such a document i have for the pismo..
and i didn't find it yet.
anyone know where to find the service-manual for a pbg4 667?

The headphone port on the PowerBook 12" is on the logic board, so it might be possible to pull the logic board out (MUCH more involved than the sound card in a Pismo) and try soldering the connector back in place (if that's where the problem is - probably just a bad connector, which will mean a logic board replacement)

A work-around would be: use an iMic or another adapter that completely bypasses that bad port. The iMic uses your USB bus for audio-in or audio-out.
