Mac Drivers from Cables to Go?

I recently bought a Cables to Go DB9 Adapter to connect my ancient Sony Handicam to my Macbook. The problem is that the disk that came with the cable only had the PC drivers, and no make ones. I already checked on the Cables to Go website, and they don't have any Mac drivers. Is there any way I could get one so my Macbook will register that it's connected to my camera??

Is your Handycam one with a hard drive?

If it's one with a DVD-R, then you will probably need something like a canopus adapter.

You would use that adapter to play the video from the Handycam, through the adapter to your Mac. That will allow you to record directly into iMovie, hopefully.

Or, do you have a HandyCam with Hi8? http://www.ehow.com/how_4451698_transfer-hi8-dvd.html

I've got a Digital 8 Handicam DCR-TRV510. The digital tapes I use say Hi8 on them, but that ehow link is not at all helpful to me. I tried the tripplite driver for my version of os x, but it's still not registering my camera.

You may not get the USB cable to work.
I think you can use the i-Link connector - on the front of the camcorder, probably labeled DV in/out.
That takes a standard 4-pin FireWire connector at that plug. The other end of the cable depends on which MacBook you have. An older MacBook will have the FW400 port, which is rectangular, and then looks round on one end. That cable is then the 6-pin FireWire, and the other end would be a 4-wire to fit your Sony.
In theory, you should be able to start your hi-8 DV tape playing, after starting iMovie, which should recognize that the camcorder is sending a video signal, and let you record it - in theory... Sony's often don't cooperate, but maybe yours will work better.
