Hi, I have just joined this forum. Hope you can help. I have just upgraded my G4 PowerPC to os x tiger and find that I can't open some applications at all. Besides this I have found the my Dreamweaver is not putting files to sites at all. I have checked this with a few different sites hosted by different companies and get the same 'Server not responding' messages. I am connected to the servers as I have tested this in "manage sites'. I know these are 2 different questions but wondering whether they are both related to the updgrade of my os.

Thanks in advance.

The kernel of OS X was vastly upgraded from Panther(10.3.x) to Tiger (10.4.x). You best bet will be to ignore software update and first install the 10.4.1 Update manually. Then download and load the 10.4.11 Combo Update to skip right ahead and it will straight update from 10.4.1 to 10.4.11. It will reboot twice for security firmware updates so don't be alarmed.

Then once you get to 10.4.11 download the program AppFresh to update the current versions of your software so the programs will run right.

Thanks Satcomer and DeltaMac. Apologies for long time in replying. I have been snowed. I tried to download the 10.4.1 update manually but got the message "You cannot install Mac OS X Updte on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update. There is a big red exclamation mark on the hard drive icon.

A bit of background. I have just installed lots of updates (up to Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 9, ver 1.0) using the Apple Software Update menu - is this the same as downloading the 10.4.1 update? Probably? Well before I go and download 10.4.11 Combo Update I will wait for any confirmation.

Apologies again for late response and many thanks for your helpful advice.

Clearly not. Choose the {Apple Menu}/About this Mac menu selection. Which version of MacOS X does it say that you have?

Thanks MisterMe. I have version 10.4.11
This is the most recent version of MacOS X 10.4. You may install updates for certain OS components like QuickTime and Java. You may also install security updates as they are released. However, you cannot install "updates" to older versions of the OS. Software Update should handle all of your OS update needs.

If you are having issues with third-party software, then you should check the developers' websites to ensure that each it is compatible with MacOS X 10.4. 11. You can find almost every software title available for the Mac--commercial, shareware, and freeware--here and there.

Many thanks MisterMe and everyone else too. Sorry I am a bit of a newbie on Mac OS so didn't realise I had already installed updates for Mac OS X 10.4.11. I haven't had any problems since installing the available updates. So thanks again
