mac osx sleep

My mac will not sleep without my forcing it.
Have made sure the energy saving settings are ok but it will not sleep when it is supposed to.

Also, what kind of peripherals are connected to the computer? Any USB hubs? If possible, return the machine to an "as-stock-as-possible" state (with simply the monitor, keyboard and mouse connected) and see if things get any better.
 
Does it go to sleep if set to manually?
If it doesn't, or it wakes up by its own time, what shows in Console when it's waken up?

Do you have 'wake on administrative access' on by any chance?
 
I think I've solved the problem. I had downloaded a screensaver from the Apple site.
I uninstalled it and things seem to be fine now. Thanks for your replies.
