Macally External Enclosure Heat Question

I've purchased the following:

And paired it with a seagate drive. The ecnclosures do not have any fans and noticed when I took the aluminum cover off, the drives are really hot to the touch. Can anyone comment on their experience using this enclosure? Did anyone experience drive failure because of this heat+enclosure combo?

I don't anyone with the enclosure. However if you are really concerned about it then look at the hard drives manual for the heat tolerance then go to the local Radio Shack and get a handheld thermometer like these and measure the heat.

I would not recommend using an external enclosure without a fan as a full-time drive.

For a daily backup solution where you back up to the drive then put the drive away, it should be fine -- but heat does damage hard drives... it takes a LOT of heat, though.

I experienced the same heat problem with my 5 Macallys stack together.
I bought a mini fan from Walmart and had it on on the stack and it did cooled them down quite a bit.
