Migrating Users and permissions

I am a brand new Mac user. I bought two iMacs a 20 and 24 inch model. One is for me and one for my daughter. I am a very experienced professional when it comes to Windows. I have licenses for a complete windows domain. All our windows PCs are part of the domain and each of the users has an account in the domain. In addition we have a Windows 2003 server that we use as a file and print server. This allows us to share files and disk space. The nice thing is when you log in on any of the PCs you can see your files. Also you don't need a password to access the shared folders. That is the number one reason I built the server. The problem is now that we have Macs, the users n the Macs have to give a password when they map a drive. In addition, I haven't figured out how make a mapping show up every time you boot up.

Is there a way to setup folder shares that Mac users can see without having to give a password?

Is there a way to allow users to have a "permanent" mapped drive?

You are OVER thinking the problem. In Leopard (10.5.x) just launch System Preferences->Sharing and follow your nose .:).

/YourHardDrive/Users/Shared/ and place the files there you want to share on the network.

Also you can download for your Windows machines Bonjour for Windows to use the Macs' Bonjour local network technology.

To join a Windows domain just launch System Preferences (again do you see a pattern forming)->Network, then go into "Advanced" and put in the "WINS" domain information.

Plus there is a book called Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Leopard Edition that will help you understand the Macs. I almost guaranty that you will find this book VERY informative.

To bind to a Windows domain, you need to do more than just enter the WINS information in the Network pane of the System Preferences.

Launch "Directory Utility" and add a Directory Server (your Windows PDC). Then, you will notice that when you log out and return to the login screen on a Mac OS X computer, you will see an "Other" login option... there you can enter your Active Directory credentials and actually be part of the domain you have set up, and have access to shared folders and whatever else you have set up.
 
Thanks so much that is exactly what I was looking for. I knew if I asked, I would get the answer. One of the things I have found to my pleasant surprise is that the Mac community is much more helpful without the condescending attitude I got when I triesd to switch to Linux. I have only had my 24" iMac for a day and already I can't get over how awesome it is. I feel like I am in heaven. I wishI had more time to play. Unortunately my work requires me to use my window machine.
 
I, too, am forced to use Windows at work as well as Linux, so I can sympathize with your situation.
