moving vm dmk file to external drive

Where do you get that error?
What application?
What version of Mac OS X?
What are you doing when you get it?
 
hi, im using mac os x 10.5.8

processor : 2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo
1 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram

its happening when im trying to move file from the mac HD to external HD (seagate 1 TB)

To expand on this highlight the external drive and do a Get Info (Command button+i) on that drive and it will tell you how it is formatted.

FAT32 is a native old windows format that limits size of files to 4Gig. That is why Microsoft went to NTFS and won't license it to Apple so all OS X can do is read NTFS. The native format for OS X is OS X Extended, the short is HFS+.
 
Then you can only store files on that drive that are less than 4GB in size... there is no way around this.

If you want to put a VM image on the drive that is larger than 4GB, you will need to reformat the drive to a format that supports files larger than 4GB.

NTFS can support files larger than 4GB, but is read-only (without modifying preferences or installing 3rd-party software) under Mac OS X. HFS+ can support files larger than 4GB, but is a format that is only readable under Mac OS X. In order for Windows to read/write HFS+-formatted drives, 3rd-party software would need to be installed on the Windows machine.
