I have a MAc OS X version 10.7.2, when i open iChat it shows my status as "available" and has my online friends. My friends have told me that they cannot see me as online on their buddy lists. I have restarted iChat and my computer but they still aren't able to see me.

Open System Preferences->Mail, Contacts & Calendars pane and check the AOL tab to make sure it has you logged in on that pane.

If the settings are correct in iChat (logged in, and not set to invisible, and not set to visible only to selected people), and people still can't see you, restart - or quit - imagent process. (With Activity Monitor or Terminal)
For some reason imagent has recently been acting all wonky with 10.7 here as well, and killing the agent always does the trick.

I've killed imagent. Checked to see if I"m signed in in the system preferences and still no one can see me. It happened after I installed the Beta version of iMessage..... Did I mess something up?

Yes, I logged in with messages. I could see everyone but no one could see me. I loved the idea of messages. Switching from iPhone numbers to chat names, etc... was fun. However, I discovered that no one could see me on chat. That is when I started the process of trying to figure out what to do.

So, after quitting the amagent several times, and restarting, quitting messages, etc... I completely uninstalled the message program. ichat was then on the dock again. But still no one can see me. I even quit the imagent process again, but still I don't show up. :(
