I have a G-5 and I am not using an Apple keyboard, is there a keystroke sequence to open the DVD?

Try holding down F12 for a few moments.

Also download the application TinkerTool. Then when the application is running select the tab named "Applications" and put a check mark in the box for "Add eject button to the menu bar". You then will have an eject button to open the drive.

Or, simply navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ and double-click the "Eject.menu" document. An eject menu will appear in your menubar.
