OS RE install

I'm trying to do a fresh install using my 10.5 Disk.
I tried restarting and holding down the "C" key and the disk eventually stops spinning and my screen goes blank.

Then I tried clicking on the install icon from the disk and then a window that gave me a restart command appeared. Again , it restarted then nothing but a blank screen.

I'm wondering if I have to format my OS partition before I attempt a fresh install?

Any ideas ?

Thank you,

Maybe you are you trying to install 10.5 on a Mac that is too new for 10.5?
Or, is this the same DVD that came with your Mac when new?
What is the exact 10.5 version number listed on the label of that DVD? 10.5.(what?)

Which Mac model do you have? Please be detailed about that, including processor speed.

On what Mac are you trying to install 10.5.x? Just remember that you can't put an older version of OS X that is older that the version that came with that Mac. It has to do with all the little new hardware differences in that new Mac that came out AFTER that Mac was made.

My Bad,
I'm doing a reinstall of my MacBook Pro 2.66 ghz and I WAS using the wrong disk. I have copies of OSs from over the years and I got my old 10.5 disk confused with the "grey" 17" install disk that came with my computer.

Thanks again folks for all your help.
