Photo processing software on iMac

I am using OS X 6.6. I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed and it runs well. I downloaded Sigma Photo Pro 4.2 for my Sigma camera and it does not acknowledge that the camera has been plugged in, hence it does nothing. Adobe CS4 finds the camera with no problem. I trashed and re-installed SPP and it is the same problem. Suggestions?

Incidentally, iPhoto (I think it's iLife11) recognizes the camera and its name but cannot open the files.
 
Are these pictures JPEG, RAW, PNG or something else? Does /Applications/Image Capture see the printer at all?
