Please help - Ext Firewire Drive Won't Mount!

I have an external Firewire 120gb firewire I back up to - for some reason It's started to make some weird clicking noises every now and then. It just won't mount, 1% of the time it does, but you go and double click and the spinning disk appears and that's it!

I've run First aid and it sees it but gives me the following info:

Verify and Repair disk “FIREWIRE BACKUP PRIMARY”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Keys out of order
Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
The volume FIREWIRE BACKUP PRIMARY could not be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
Repair attempted on 1 volume
1 volume could not be repaired

you could be right. I have run Disk Warrioer which says its got a serious problem, I have run Techtools which simply locks up and now I'm running Data Rescue X (advise from another forum) which appears to actually be scanning all the files. Fingers crossed it'll work! Otherwise I'm not sure what I'll do.

Maybe I should call them "jumper bridge pins"...they set master/slave priorities on EIDE drives. You don't need them and they will hose an external firewire setup.

That's not entirely true -- I have two Bytec FireWire cases that require the drive to be jumpered in the CS position... they will not work unless the drives are jumpered. Whether this is a limitation of the case or the EIDE drive itself (IBM Deskstar) is unknown.
