PowerMac G4 and Speakers

Greetings from a Mac Novice

I have just purchased a 2nd hand powermac, G4 1GHz. It has an internal speaker.
I would like to connect my Klipsch promedia 2:1 system to it. However, when I attach it to the only outlet, the speakers don't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Does the powermac need a sound card?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Are you connecting the speakers to the line-out port, or could you perhaps be mistakenly connecting them to the Apple Pro Speakers port?

It's a 2.5mm port, so a standard 3.5mm plug won't fit, but some aftermarket speakers do ship with a 2.5mm plug.

Also, can you verify with the vendor/seller of the computer that the sound-out port did work correctly before the purchase? It's common for those ports to be broken on second-hand computers -- they're not the toughest ports in the world, and one clumsy trip over a speaker wire can break them easily.

Hi

Firstly, thanks for your assistance.
I am running OS Panther.
I have tried the headphone port and it is working. This is the port that I am using for the klipsch speakers. Will have to test the speakers to ensure that they are working - they were 2 months ago

Thanks
