Reboot chime/external speakers

I recently purchased a 20" iMac, 2.66ghz, Intel Core Duo. I replaced a 1st generation, G4, 400, AGP tower. I had external speakers(with sub wof) that I plugged into the new iMac and they work fine with audio, but can't seem to get the start up chime to come thru the speakers like it did with my G4. Any suggestions? I have set the sound properly in the System preferences.

Yes, that's right.
The Intel mac internal speakers are setup differently
The startup chime sounds through the internal speakers, regardless of the presence of external speakers.
There are some solutions to MUTE or control the startup chime. here's one:

Thanks for your answer. I really did not want to mute the chime but have it come thru the external speakers. If that is not possible, then I'll just leave it as is.

Yea Apple changed that behavior in the Intel Macs because to many OS Classic users were complaining of the loud startup bong noise. So I guess you are going up river now.
