Slow Internet on Safari

I bought my mac in February of this year, and I love it. Unfortunately, within the last week of so it has been taking about 30 seconds before internet pages load up. Any help on how to make safari fun more efficiently and quicker is greatly appreciated!

Well if you did a basic forum search you find this info.

1. Check to make sure you didn't get the ONE trojan for OS X by running DNSchangerRemoval Tool and see if you got that.

2. If you live in North America (U.S.A & Canada) then use OpenDNS.com and open a FREE account to control your DNS to block KNOWN phishing, trojan laden sites and many others (including individual sites you want to block yourself). you will be VERY surprised what you can do when you become empowered.

3. Do some maintenance on that Mac. Download either Yasu or Onyx and run all the cleaning routines. Once the cleaning program reboots the Mac, immediately reboot again to rebuild you startup/shutdown cache[/url] to make your Mac run almost like new. Do this 'maintenance about every two months to keep you Mac humming along.

With some recurring love and knowledge and you can help yourself. I just ask you pass this maintenance along then you will be a semi Mac guru.;)

Edit: Also check /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder for old Plug-Ins.

Haha thanks Satcomer!! Apparently I had a trojan...

Well I am glad you found it but you might be in trouble if you EVER went to a banking site or used your Credit Card online while you had the Trojan.

The safe thing is do some things to protect yourself. If you went to anything sensitive while you had the trojan call your Credit Card company and have them watch your spending habits. Plus it is important you CHANGE the passwords to sites AND your Mac!!! You had a trojan and it probably transmitted to hackers your information.

Now I really urge you to be vigilant in watching your security. Download the free iStat Menus (don't worry, it is 10.4.x or better, including 10.5.x) and use the Network monitor in your menu items. Plus consider getting the shareware Little Snitch and it will help you keep and key out to all applications trying to access the web.

If you get these two applications and use the the OpenDNS I mentioned earlier then you can really protect yourself.

To clarify how you probably got the trojan so you don't do it again in the future, at one point you probably visited a site that warned you that you needed a new QuickTime codec or something, and then it prompted you to download the new "codec" (which is actually the trojan). Opening and trying to install the "codec" is actually opening and installing the trojan.

The trojan changes your DNS settings so that when you try and visit a site, you're redirected to some other site of the hacker's choosing.

Thanks guys, Satcomer and ElDiabloConCaca, I had done some banking and purchasing and am greatful for the info!!!

Everything you both mentioned has happened and I appreciate your knowledge and help. Thanks again
