Software Update unable to install...

Open Terminal and paste this into it;

ls -l /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK

This will tell you what version Java you have. You may already have this version.

Go to the Apple Menu to About This mac, take a screen shot and post it back here.

Didn't want to say your eyes were deceiving you, but this is a strange problem. Just thought I'd ask.

Have you trashed and downloaded 1.4.2 again?

In your Receipts Folder;

Library>Receipts

What Java pkg's show?

try disabling the installation of java in software update and then let it install the other things that are there for an update..

Wish I could give you an answer, but only guesses available now.

I would trash the version you have now and download it again from Apple.

You can also download it from me here;

http://homepage.mac.com/maktek/Java142.dmg

This is the download I installed on my machines so I know it's good.

The only other suggestion I have is to reinstall 10.3.3 using the Combo Update. This has corrected problems for some people.

Well I reinstalled it with the combo update of .3.3, and it still gives the exact same error message. btw I started up with fsck -y, and I had problems there and it asked to force check something by typing -f but when I did that, it said no such command available.

Well guys, I've successfully installed the Java Update, I tried it again a few days ago, click pause a couple of times, and tyhen it worked. But now there is a Quicktime 6.5.1 update, and I get the exact same error...
