Streaming woes

I get around 3.25 Mpps of broadband speed. It should be more than adequate for streaming videos (such as on YouTube).

However, I keep getting frequent buffering/freezes/slow downs and it's becoming a drag.

Does anyone have any idea what the fault may be?

P.S. It makes no difference whether I use Safari or Firefox.

I must agree, I feel as though YouTube lacks what the people at Google can provide us. There has never been a time when I haven't had problems with YouTube, either the video won't even show up or it takes an hour to load a three minute video.

(End of rant :D )

I honestly think it's just YouTube and nothing more, it stayed the same from computer to computer. Or maybe Mac OS X just doesn't like YouTube. One thing that I did come by a little while ago was Divx's web plug-in for flash videos. I'm not exactly sure of everything that it does, but it does a much better job at loading and buffering the videos on YouTube.

Using Safari you might want to try the" You Tube 5" extension,Takes You Tube videos and plays them as HTML 5 video.Pretty much cleared out my YT issues. You Tube does suffer from poor performance when it gets busy. Not much we can do about that.

Plus measure you real speed with SpeedTest.net and pick your closet server. A lot of users lately have been seeing older cheap brand routers dying after 2-3 years (slowing down of course first). Also try to run straight to the ISP modem (power off the modem first) to see if the speeds change. It might be worth a try.

Thanks for the above. I tried Divx but it wouldn't work on Safari (but it will with Google Chrome).

Lo and behold having now tried Google Chrome streaming is heaps better!
