system damaged

for some reason i couldnt get to my system preferences any more so i ran disk utility and this is the message it delivered:

i cant even get into system preferences

Backup now because you hard drive might be going (you can clone the drive for free using Carbon Copy Cloner) and replace that internal drive ASAP.

If you ran Disk Utility while booted from your internal hard drive, then the errors reported may be incorrect.

It's best (read: required) for you to boot from the OS X Install CD/DVD, then run Disk Utility on your internal drive while booted from the optical drive in order to correctly diagnose and repair your hard drive using Disk Utility.
