in cleaning out some stuff on my hd#1 i guess I through away some core service item by mistake. now my hd #1 will not open. all on my screen is gone except the blue screen. i can boot up on an ext. hd.-10.5.2 os but it is just a backup. also in the lh side window menu it shows all drives etc. but the title for the one that is a small house {HOME] i guess is titled- PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.
HOW TO CHANGE IT BACK TO ORIG. TITLE? MAYBE SO I CAN GET BACK ONTO MY HD#1. APPLE G4 1GHZ THANKS MUCH IN ADVANCE IF SOMEONE CAN SAVE ME.!!!!!

Reads like you need to do an "Archive and Install."

For "Blue Screen," Pogue also lists the possibility of a corrupt font in your OS 9 System folder . . . which is only relevant if you have one.

Anyways, post your computer's specs--model, processor, RAM, HD, et cetera, since that is a big help.

If you can boot up on the back-up External HD, see if you can run Disk Utility first on your HD1. Otherwise, boot on your installation disk.

"But I don't have my installation disk!!11!"

There are ways to replace them if you let us know what version you need.

SORRY ABOUT lack of info. using 10.5.5 on g4 1ghz 2 gigs. ram 60 gig hd. 2nd internal hd. 500 gig. -2- ext. hds. 500 gig each.
ran disk utility and nothing except says hd #1 okay. am running disk warrior right now and when i get home i will run disk salvage to see if i can recover any of the deleted files.

Well, DW should create an image you can tranfer to the other External HD so you can save some data.

However, if you have--if I understood you correctly--everything already backed up, why not simply re-install the OS and then transfer your information from the back up?

Evil blue screen is gone!!!!! Thanks all for the help. I ended up doing an archive and install of system. Then did complete updates. Thanks to you dr. X and everyone.

yes i did try it first but couldn't get it to work for some reason unknown to me.
