For some reason using two magic mice in the same house, the mice will connect with any computer configured to use magic mice. So you switch one on and suddenly you're controlling someone elses computer. is there no control over this?!

Yes...
The Magic mouse uses Bluetooth, so you can setup each mouse so it can only be used on one Mac.
Have a USB mouse handy, as this will temporarily remove your wireless mouses.
Go into your Bluetooth, click on the mouse that you don't want to use, and delete that listing, in fact, delete both mouses. Turn both mouses off...
Make the one mouse that you want to use on that Mac discoverable (turn off the mouse, then back on). Add that mouse through the bluetooth device setup. Then, turn that mouse off.
Do the same with the _other_ mouse on your other Mac.
Now, unless you re-add another mouse, each Mac should see only the mouse that is setup for that Mac.

(Just in case you ask - I consider the plural of mouse (for computers) to be mouses, and not mice... :D )
