I'm using a Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.5.6. I do not currently have access to the admin account. I have tried to reset the admin password using the original Install Disk that came withe computer. However, when I go to "Reset Password", and am prompted with "Select the Mac OS disk which contains a password to reset, my Macintosh HD is not listed as an option, only the Install Disk . Because of this, none of the user accounts on this computer are listed in the dropdown menu for me to select. How do I select the HD if it's not even there???? *cries*

What kind of OS X Install CD/DVD are you using? Is it the same CD/DVD that you used to install Mac OS X 10.5 on your computer, or did your computer come with 10.4 (or older), and you upgraded to 10.5 somehow, but are trying to reset the password with a CD/DVD that has 10.4 or older on it?

While you are booted to your installer DVD - do you see your hard drive in the Disk Utility? If yes, try Repairing the disk (different from Repair Disk Permissions), then retry the password reset.
