Hey, I'm trying to set up unreal tournament 2004 so i can play it with my logitech gamepad. so far (without me doing anything) it lets me fire/ change weapon and move. Does anyone know how i get total control of the other functions on my gamepad? In the input options theres only options for joystick or keyboard.

You should be able to select "joystick," then re-define the keys to map to the buttons on the gamepad.
Click the action you want to change (there should be an option to change the controls in the game options), then press the button on the gamepad that you want that action mapped to.

Thanks el, what you suggested worked to a degree but it won't recognise my right analogue stick. without it im having to use the mouse still to change the direction that my character looks in, which is hard to do while holding a control pad 
Is there any special thing I have to do in order to use the right hand analogue stick as the directional control? the left one was automatically accepted as the movement (forward, left, right, back) and works fine.

Why? Keyboard/mouse gives you much better control.
