Why is this forum so slow?

Well, the forum is very slow... if you're on a PC. At home, with my Mac, no problem, the forum is very fast. But here, at work (2Gb DSL), with Win2000 and Internet Exploder 6, all is VERY VERY slow, and I've gave up downloading pictures...

roger, OK, I'm open to the fault not lying with IE; perhaps I am too quick to judge.

In my experience, the Mac-based browsers I use do not have this problem and Mozilla does not have problems on this (Windows XP) PC. I only encounter this problem when using IE 6 (SP1) on the Windows XP PC on my desk. In addition, I know people who also encounter this problem when running recent versions of IE under Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 98SE. It seems IE is the only common link in my experience, and that is why I assumed it was an IE-related bug.

I agree though: whatever it is, it's a pain and changing browsers is not an option for everyone.

bbloke - I didn't mean you, or even people in this forum, more the people on the vBulletin.com forum, whose discussion was low quality IMHO. Sorry, I should have been more explicit.

I agree that IE (on PC) is a common thread, but so is vBulletin. The two pieces of software don't seem to like each other. It could be IE's fault, or it could be vBulletin, or it could be just a different interpretation of an open source format (heh heh!) and no-one's fault. My point is: we don't really know.

R.

When viewing the forum from work it seems to be fine for me. Win2k with IE 6. I'm not sure of too many other specs on the box though.

roger, thanks for the clarification. I tend to agree with you; I guess we can't really be sure whether it is IE's fault, vBulletin's fault, or even something more like an unfortunate incompatibility.

Rhino_G3, what exact version of IE are you using? I've only had these problems very recently, during which time the macosx.com forums have changed, I upgraded my version of IE from 6 to 6 SP1, and I later upgraded from Windows XP to Windows XP SP1. So, any one of those factors could be the culprit as I don't remember which event triggered the problems!

See ya.
And he's outta here! :D Wheee!

As for the board problems, I have them at school. It seems slow sometimes, and other times (One in particular) it completely failed at loading any images. However, this problem was present on a number of other sites as well, so the porblem must not be on your guys' side. I never get this kind of issue on my Mac at home, on Chimera.

Weird...

I'm really not sure what version it is. I'll have to check when I go in later on today.

I notice that after the issue occurs on this forum, it happens to all sites I visit after, unless I launch a separate IE session (Not just Ctrl+N, I mean running it as a seperate task). I haven't tried other vBulletin sites, but all I'm saying is that the problem originates here, and other pages are affected. I don't think it's a problem on the other sites you visited after. IE gets confused somehow (dang MS...), and it won't be fixed until you leave the session.

PS. I'm on my iBook now, using Chimera. Now problems whatsoever.

Wow, I thought it was a problem of my PC and was about to reinstall everything...
I'm running Win 2k SP2 with Explorer 6 SP 1 and when I enter this forum I see the same behavior observed in the other posts..
is there a way to fix this?

Just got this error and I have gotten it in the past couple of days. I'm running Chimera. Obviously it is intermittant or I would not have been able to post this ;)
