until Monday to know if it works... since I don't have internet access at home. Since you were curious, I used to have a cable modem service and I don't have a land line phone. The cable modem service started crapping out and the company wasn't doing a damn thing about it, so I got sick of...
OK, I think I may have found the answer:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106582
A snippet from the above URL:

Note: When using the automatic Software Update feature, the order in which you will see the required updates, and must install them is:

I also have found this link:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235
but none of the cases apply to my machine. It's not any of the machines listed, and the additional causes list at the bottom of the article don't apply either.
Anyone have any suggestions. I'm considering...
I tried to install http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/installerupdate.html
but I had the same problem with that as with the DVD updater and 10.1.1, my OSX hd could not be selected. Thanks for the suggestion though... I was sure that was going to fix my problem.
I got both updates from Apple's web site (I didn't use Software update because my internet connection is non-existent). Anyway, I'm running 10.1 right now. I have a 466Mhz G4 tower. When I try to install either update, I get to the screen where it asks which drive I want to install the update...

I'm working on it... then like a dope, I forgot to compress the file before I started sending it. I'm gzipping the image as I type this. If it's significantly smaller (which I'm sure it will be) I'll stop the other upload and start the compressed version.
I walked in, there was no line... just a table at the entrance, with a bunch of computers showing off windows XP. I asked the guy about the OSX update and he just handed me a copy. I was expecting more people. I guess I'm glad that everyone else isn't as geeky as I am.
I have one of the Macs release this year, but not the newest line. It's a 466Mhz G4. I just upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2.1 and when I rebooted from the update, the computer rebooted fine, but my power light went out. I didn't have time to play with it (I was updating the software before work) so...
