    NO EXCHANGE FOR OSX??!!

Trelane, I think you're confused about Exchange on the Mac.. at least, you're confusing ME! ;-) The MS Exchange server does not now, nor it likely to EVER run on a Mac, OS X, OS X Server, OS 9, or otherwise. It's an NT/2000 based server app. On the other hand, the MS Exchange CLIENT for...

    Development tool install problem

I know I'm gonna get nailed for asking this, and rightfully so, but I don't care. WHERE did the development tools go once they were installed, and WHAT was included? I didn't see so much as a Read Me file. Anyone? Thanks.

HFS Hard drives missing after revert back to OS 9

I have read on a number of Mac sites that Alsoft (makers of DiskWarrior, PlusMaker, etc.) have a FREE downloadable utility on their site to solve the disappearing HFS volume problem. http://www.Alsoft.com/AskAl/download.html On the pull-down menu in the center of that page, choose "Make...

    IP Multihoming / DNS(named) ?

Has anyone worked out whether IP multihoming is supported in OS XB? Would it be a BSD-based feature that I'd have to set up from the command line? And, has anyone tried to run DNS (the "named" daemon)? Is there a simple procedure for that? I'd like to at least attempt having Apache, DNS and...

    cannot connect to nt4.0 server

jcooper is correct. Windows 2000 supports AFP over IP, and Win2000 servers that have benn configured to run AFP, and have Mac Shares set up are accessible in OS X. However, they do not automoatically appear as available Network Volumes in the Connect To Server window. To access a Win2000...

    Switching between 8.6 & 9/X Partitions on G3 PB 400

I just re-read your post, iBook. Using the System Disk CP in OS 9 may well let you move from 9 down to 8.6, or from 9 to X (I just tried it, it works). But that doesn't address my initial conclusion that using OS X's Startup Disk System Preference to move directly from X to 8.6 could end up...

    Switching between 8.6 & 9/X Partitions on G3 PB 400

Well. I can certainly try it again, I have little to lose, the PowerBook is not my primary workstation currently. I hope you can't hear me screaming from Chicago ;-)

    Word in os9 under X

If you haven't already, update Office 98 with the Combined Office98 Updater (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/office/98/updates/office98_combined_updater/default.asp). This worked for me, and got Word running properly.

    Switching between 8.6 & 9/X Partitions on G3 PB 400

Just a note about how NOT to switch between drive partitions if you've set up OS 8.6 on one partition and 9.04/X beta on a second partition. In this scenario, if you're booted into OS X, and go to the Startup Disk System Preference, you will see three system folders displayed. One for X (Core...

    OS Xb and Alsoft's Plus Maker/Maximizer for HFS+ ?

I received the following reply from AlSoft. It looks like a go: PlusMaker 1.2.0will convert disks that are standard format to extended format while the computer is started from Mac OS 9.0.4 or earlier. It will not convert disks while the computer is started from Mac OS X. If an accidentally...

    OS Xb and Alsoft's Plus Maker/Maximizer for HFS+ ?

Yes, I'd read somewhere else that OS X doesn't like to be messed with by "Classic Mac" disk utilities, such as Norton. However, what I want to do is use Plus Maker, and possibly Plus Maximizer BEFORE I install the OS X Beta. I have posed this question to Alsoft, waiting for a response now.

    OS Xb and Alsoft's Plus Maker/Maximizer for HFS+ ?

Has anyone loaded OS X Beta on a volume which was optimized with Alsoft's Plus Maker (HFS to HFS+ file system conversion) or Plus Maximizer for HFS+ volumes, which can get the HFS+ block size down to as low as .5K (512 bytes per block)? I'm particularly interested in the Maximizer info. I need...

    Quark, Classic Apps

I have spent part of a day installing Mac OS Classic apps into the Classic environment within OS X. All of the Adobe apps I've tried have installed and loaded correctly. That includes Illustrator 8, Photoshop 5.0 and Acrobat 4.0. I have also installed MS Office 98, using the drag-and-drop...

    Appletalk Problems

Just a quick follow-up to my previous post: I am connecting via IP to a Windows 2000 server, NOT Windows NT 4.0. I can't get an AFP-IP connection on NT. Sorry for the confusion.
