Persistent missing system folder at boot (iMac TFT, 10.4)

try holding down the option key when you boot, hopefully your hard drive will show up, select the drive then hit the right arrow key. This will hopefully boot up your machine. You could also try boot the machine in Target disk mode (by holding down the "T" key) and connect it to another mac to...

    Backups via Disk Image?

your best bet is to use Carbon Copy Cloner (available from bombich.com) to "clone" your entire drive to another drive (preferrably to firewire drive). Make sure in the preferences to create the clone as a "bootable" volume. You'll see it in the preferences. This is a great tool for backing up...

iMac G5 OSX 10.3 no Apps will load.

sounds like your user folder preferences have been corrupted. easist thing to try is to create a new user, see if everything goes back to normal. Also, of course, boot off cd and run disk utility and permissions.

IS ANYONE HAVING THE PROBLEM OF IMPORTING FROM CD'S? I stick in a purchased cd and hit the import cd button. it looks like it's importing but nothing happens, the only way out is to force-quit. Then I go and toss the prefs, the 1st import is fine but after that it's back to the all-day lollipop...

eMac Finder Menu flashes on and off

good idea, however, client can't get to the desktop in order to do that, just keeps flashing over and over, totally unusable. I guess I could try to boot up in the safe mode but not sure if that will work either. Any more ideas?

Blinking Question Mark & Folder - Harddrive failure.

run Apple Hardware Test (included in disk 1 of disks included with your system). Boot while holding down option key to select the hardware test. run an extended test to see if it's an obvious mass storage failure. After that, call apple and get a case number.

login delays in 10.3 and above

running a G4 1.25 DP with 1 gig of memory running OS 10.3.8. After I login, takes about 3 minutes to get to the desktop. After that, everything is golden... updated to latest OS 10.3.8 with all software updates. Tried new user, booting up in safe mode, using disk utility, repaired permissions...
