Emits noise when plugged into firewire port

Weird, I noticed when the Powerbook is running on battery the firewire devices don't make that noise. When power adapter is plugged in, the noise reappeared.

    DVI to VGA Adapter Screws

Thanks for the advice! Yes, the DVI to VGA adapter works. I can get one screw to tighten, but then the adapter will be slanted and the other side pops out. I tried to push the adapter in as far as I could to tighten both screws but it seems like the screws are too short to "reach" the screw...

Problem is, my external firewire enclosure is making that same noise too but not as loud.

    DVI to VGA Adapter Screws

I made sure the adapter is plugged way in, but I can't tighten the screws to the Powerbook. Is it just me? I looked at the pins on the adapter and there's 1 pin that seems to be shorter than the others, will this be the cause? Geez...it's only the first time I've tried using the adapter and it's...

Emits noise when plugged into firewire port

Any ideas what may be wrong here? Should I stop thinking about the strange noise, move on, and do something when it actually breaks/doesn't work?

Emits noise when plugged into firewire port

When I plug in the memory card reader into my PowerBook's built-in firewire port, the device emits this high pitched buzzing noise. I thought the reader was defective, so I had it replaced and now on my second one and it's still making that same noise. It's to the point where I can't have the...

Preparing Hard Drive for Mac from PC

I have a 60GB secondary drive in my PC that is never being used and I'd like to swap it out to fit inside a firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure to use as a backup drive for my Powerbook. Most likely I'm just going to use it for my Mac only and if I really want to transfer some stuff from the PC to this...

Number of files in a folder - How to find out?

This would be exactly what I'm looking for, except it doesn't seem to work in 10.3.3. Instruction says, "To compute a folder just drag the folder and drop it over the red “DROP” ball icon". When I try to drop a folder, it says, "Wrong Object".

Number of files in a folder - How to find out?

Darn, I guess I'm still in the PC age where selecting "Properties" would show all that information. There's a lot I still need to get used to after the switch (10 months ago). I found this page: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020410125219343 Apparently there's a program...

Number of files in a folder - How to find out?

As title, is there a way to find out the number of files/subfolders in a directory? I've done a "Get Info" in Finder but it only shows me the Kind, Size, Where, Created, and Modified. Thanks! --- Mac OS X 10.3.3

    10.3.2 Startup Time - Fix

Has anyone been following up the post at apple.com regarding the startup time after installing 10.3.2? http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?14@113.8uJcaHJ9tw2.0@.599dfee8 There's a recent post of a fix and wondering if anyone has tried it and does this line in Terminal actually do any harm...
