    File Server for Mac Environments

I just wanted to point this out to everybody that might have issues running a dependable file server for Mac or Multi-Platform environments. Just as a brief summary of issue to point out, I will mention what steps had been taken. The company had a OS X, Solaris, and Windows network. All their...

shell script doesn't run from cron any more

Did you check root's mail for the error when it was trying to execute?

    SSH , ADSL SpeedStream 10.3.9

Did you add the hostname/IP infront of the key in the .authorized_keys2 file? Are your internal IPs static or dynamic? Do you have the same speed issues when sshing with the direct IP? Do you have the same netmask on both as well?

    Boosting Gain on airport cards

Well, if you get a 15" or 17" PB you will have a PCMCIA slot, and could always get a Cisco Aironet with dual MMCX connectors. That should get you the range you want. :D

    What is your screen size?

Have to have my BSD systems set to 1600x1200. Gotta have all that space on the screen. 1024x768 on my iBook though (since it won't go any higher  ).

    Quicktime streaming server & iSight?

It looks like it can be done, but I haven't found anything on how it was done. Also looks like a few have done it with Darwin Streaming Server, and Quicktime Broadcaster.

    Boosting Gain on airport cards

I don't think you are going to have to worry about range. With my Airport Extreme I'm able to get a better range than a PCMCIA card with a MMCX omnidirectional antenna. As for getting more range than that, there is a MMCX connector on the Airport Extremes.

Can you do this with OS X? (Unionfs, noatime..)

Have you tried the FreeBSD binaries? Might have some luck compiling it.

    Concerning XTools And C++

You have a /etc/profile and /etc/bashrc that the shell defaults to. When you are editing the files, did you try editing as a superuser (type 'su' and enter your root password)? If you don't have it enabled, you can go into Netinfo Manager > security > Enable Root User. As for Fink in...

    Wireless software

KisMAC is a great one. Can show your signal strength, open hosts, and all available networks plus more. Your router shouldn't be an issue with the AP tracking. On top of that, KisMAC also works with Prism2 based NICs if you ever want to use another card.

I'd have to say my first OpenBSD embedded system. How much do you spend on computer hardware/software each year?

MacOSX ssh stops dead frequently then restarts

Do you have any systems that you can locally SSH to? At least then, you might be able to diagnose the idea of it being your ISP. I have seen a few companies that have bad bandwidth policies that allow users to gain packet loss on a regular basis. At least with a DSL connection you will have your...

    Packet Analyzer

You can also find it in the OpenDarwin ports. Using tcpdump by itself might be another option for you.

apt-0.5.4-51 hates me, and I hate it.

Could you provide more lines above your first make error? It's showing that there was a problem, but what actually happened is above it.
