    C++ compiler (xcode 3.0) - help wanted!

If you need to program using C++, I cannot help. But, if you like to program using C family language both in Windows and OS X, you might like to check Java or C#. For C# you need to install Mono http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page.

    MAC/Windows Hard drives

I am using network disk (Lacie Ethernet Big), which Windows sees as a Windows server disk and Mac sees as Mac server disk (and Linux as Samba disk). The disk itself uses XFS filesystem, i.e. filesystem that neither Windows nor OS X understand. So filesystem does not matter, what matters is how...

    XML editor/browser for OS X

I tried the free version, but could not use xpaths; it seems you need the commercial version for that. I use XML/Notepad mainly in developing xpaths that will be embedded to code (XSL or otherwise), so an XML tool without xpath is no tool for me.

Restoring dot files from Time Machine

ElDiabloConCaCa: Thank you, I did not know that Time Machine stores plain files, I assumed it uses some database or similar.

    installing latex

I tried to install MacTeX, but installation stopped since it has not access to "/" (what ever that means; since I am the system owner I have access to everything, right?). I installed gwTeX, and it works fine (however, check my posting on .zshrc file).

Restoring dot files from Time Machine

I installed gwTeX to my Mac. Since it goes to /usr/local/gwTeX directory and the programs are at bin/i386-apple-darwin-current subdirectory, the PATH environment variable is sho long I thought to store it to my .zprofile file (I use zsh command shell). However, I managed to replace the file...

    installing latex

http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/ tells something: BasicTeX is smaller distribution (40MB vs 700MB) than MacTeX. (I have ITeXMac, but it seems it does not work on Leopard, so it might be I will try either BasicTeX or MacTeX).

Bluetooth Mty Mouse won't reconnect automatically

Why not try other way? Turn first the mouse and then the laptop? I have similar but smaller problem with my Mighty Mouse: When I boot my PC and run OpenSUSE Linux, it takes about a minute before the mouse can move the cursor. I know, a minute is small compared to the 30 minutes, but it feels...

Run Mac OS X Leopard in 64-bit

Yep. I finally convinced myself (I was also woundering this) this by installing 64 bit Linux (Kubuntu) onto my VMWare Fusion.

    Slow to Empty Trash

One stupid question: When you moved the programs to the other disk, did you reboot before moving the program to Trash? It might be, that you still were using the program (more likely so if they are part of the system), so the files cannot be deleted before you stop using them.

    exe file

MisterMe: Fourth kind is .net executable. You can download Mono from Novell, and run (and develop) .net programs on Mac. .Net is Microsoft's answer to SUN's Java and Mono is Novell's free implementation of the virtual machine, compiler, classes etc. For download, check...

    Piping text to Clipboard?

Ooops! Mikuro already answered when I was typing my answer. Also, I should have used pbcopy instead of pbpaste.

    Piping text to Clipboard?

Yes, it does. There seems to be a service called pboard. Also, there are two commands, pbcopy and pbpaste that use the service. $ pwd | pbpaste does what you asked. (All this I got by typing "man -k paste", which gave pboard, and then "man -k pboard")

    sudo source ./myscript

Do you know what source command does ? In Unix command shells have two kinds of commands: internal and external commands. Actually external commands are other programs, where as internal commands are part of the command set that the command shell implements (ok, some of the external...

    XML editor/browser for OS X

Is there any free XML editor/browser than can edit quite large (tens of megabytes) XML files, with built in XSLT support? Actually what I am looking for is Microsoft's XML Notepad 2007, but for OS X !

    New MacBooks and MacBook Pros

I have 15" MBP (the now old one) at home and 17" HP at work. If you have to use it all day long, 17" is totally worth its value. But, if you have to move it a lot, 15" is better.

Internet on virutal PC using VMware

Have you installed the VMWare Tools? Without them, the graphics and the net are almost unusable? Good thing about Fusion is, that it comes tools for all supported OSs. (If I were you, I'd download some Linux image from VMWare's web and try the net with Linux, but that is because I prefer Linux...

    Lacking Disk Space

No, it seems about right. I bet you have not only OS X 10.5, but also other programs that come with macbook, like iwork, some demo programs etc. Even if you have use 2GB, the system and programs take some. Also you have to remember that OSs and disk manufactures count disk capacity differently...

    Password-protecting specific applications

How about making an encrypted DMG file, mount it and put the program there? Then remove the "disk" and move the DMG file somewhere out of sight and doubleclick it when you need the program? Yes, it seems to work (I tried on some card program from Version Tracker).
