    Outlook for OSX

I can assure you that Apple Mail does not work with Windows Exchange server 2003 unless IMAP is turned on. In our case it is not turned on and Mail doesn't work with it at all. It will neither receive nor send. It's very frustrating given the limitations of Entourage 2004 that Microsoft seems in...

Let's see now, how many viruses have been released targeted at OS X? Oh, that's right zero, none, zip. MDA

10.3.2: I can no longer launch an app from a contexual menu from a folder on the dock

This appears to be a bug introduced in 10.3 and not fixed with the 10.3.2 update. When this happens launch the Activity Monitor application in the Utilities folder and quit the Dock. It will relaunch itself and all should be well. It is not a permanent fix however. MDA

10.3 - Folder of aliases in the dock

This appears to be a bug in 10.3. If you launch the Activity Monitor utility, double click on the Dock process then click the quit button the dock will restart and the folder alias should work correctly again. It is only a temporary fix until it happens again. MDA

In Internet Explorer on the Mac you just hold down the option key while clicking on the resize button to open it full screen. That does come in handy. I was talking about Finder windows. MDA

I can't think of a situation when I'd want a window to open full screen. I see Windows users constantly resizing a window after they've opened it because it is full screen and in the way of other windows. If you watch a PC user open a window on a Mac you'll notice that out of habit they resize...

Oh my god. Okay drop my reference to Windows being dumb since it seems people are way to sensitive to an operating system, not a person mind you, being called dumb. I do find it incredibly irritating that Windows doesn't resize it's windows the same way that the Mac OS does. MDA

Oh come on. In my opinion it's stupid that Windoze can't do that. Don't take it so personally. MDA

Here's one for you. Why is Windoze still so damn dumb that it can't manage to resize a window so that it's just large enough to hold the contents when you click on the resize button like the Mac OS does? MDA

What I see in the screen captures of Longhorn are the same things that have always bothered me about Windows. Microsoft confuses giving someone 5000 ways of doing something with making things easier for the end user, and Microsoft gives you the list of ways rather than let you decide how you...

That's great stuff and I except that you are an expert in this field. Did you get the reference I sent you to Bruce Tognazzini's web site? He has very good insights into the GUI and specifically the Windows windowed toolbar. *quoted material and reply edited out - Ed* MDA

Actually yes, if I can find the bookmark I created for the site I will post it for you to visit. I found it to be fascinating reading. If computer interface design were my forte I would write something about it. My expertise happens to be in Mac support since that's what I do for a living at...

I just jumped into XP using VPC to take a look at the group sorting and I've got to tell you that it doesn't do much for me. I'd rather view in a list or by column myself. This grouping feature just seems to make the list take up more room and take longer to scroll through. If I want to move to...

Exactly when did I claim I was an expert on the design function and usability requirements of a GUI? What I did say is that there have been numerous articles written by people who know far more than you do about the GUI and the end user experience. It wouldn't hurt you to read some of them. What...
