    Fatal Drive damage - aargh

I realize this is a hardware query BUT I have a G4 1.25 Dual Power PC and I've added a 320Gb ATA drive as the system drive. All seems fine except that in Disk Utility the drive appears RED and it says ' This drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility" It won't let me format the...

    Formatting a partitioned drive

Thanks for that. I confess to having a senior moment. There were actually two physical drives in the machine...a 100Gb and a 60Gb. I suppose I just couldn't believe they were so small.

    Formatting a partitioned drive

I have a G4 Powermac dual 1.25 with a 160Gig drive which is partitioned into two. I'd like to reformat the drive as a single partition. I have booted from an OS X CD but can't find a way with Disk utilities to 'UN-partition' the drive(s). Thanks

Install Leopard on iMac G4 with dodgy cd drive

I have a 1Ghz PowerPC G4 iMac and want to delete everything and start again with Leopard. (it seems to be within the system reqs.) Problem is the DVD drive isn't functioning properly. It sees the OSX DVD but won't boot from it. Question - What's the best alternative method? Create a boot...

    MacBook Pro 15" HD replacement

Thanks for all that, I will certainly use CCC. I really am torn as to the best physical way to do it. ie. put the new drive in my old MacBook or put it in a firewire caddy? and then replace the old HD.

    MacBook Pro 15" HD replacement

I've decided I am going to replace my existing 120Gig drive in my MacBook Pro 15" 2.33 Intel with a new Western Digital 320Gig. I use the thing so intensely, I never have any free space. I've got the drive but want to ensure as perfect a clone as possible. How should I go about this. I do have...

Disk warrior unable to repair drive

Yes, I did that and it verifies ok (now) but what I'm looking for is a way to rebuild the directory..Maybe I'm just being over cautious as it seems to be working ok now. I will backup all the data and replace the drive with a new Seagate or something. You can't be too careful and from what I...

Disk warrior unable to repair drive

Yes, I don't actually think it's disk damage, just directory problems. Forgive ignorance, How do I reboot in Single-User Mode?

Disk warrior unable to repair drive

Had a few issues with a couple of (Glyph) drives which are clearly corrupted. I booted with Disk Warrior and attempted a repair but it says error 2155 unable to repair as the disk is too badly damaged. Disk Utility verifies OK. Anyone got any suggestions as to how to clean up this disk. I've...

    defrag the system drive

Agreed, I think after my recent horrors with my drives, backup - erase - restore is the best option. I don't use iDefrag now at all. It seems there's no need. I recently bought Personal Backup X4 and use that to backup VERY regularly now. Once bitten......

    defrag the system drive

DW suggests I rebuild the system directory before installing it on the Mac (G4), but when I try it says I cannot as it's too badly damaged. No other explaination is offered. i'm merely concerned that it has 'issues'.

    defrag the system drive

thanks but I tried to rebuild the system directory with Disk warrior and it said it was unable to do so due to it being too severely damaged. I assumed the next step was a defrag.????

    Glyph Drive dead?

I have a Glyph GT Key drive (160Gig, 40Gb free) which suddenly one morning was unrecognisable by the Mac G4 and indeed any other Mac. Disk Utility sees the drive as unformatted and Disk Warrior will not see it at all. Anyone think there's any hope without sending it away for recovery?

    MacBook Pro fan bearing

Thanks for the overheat warning. I have calmed down now and realized it must be repaired correctly. Slightly annoying but a small price to pay for the joys of Mac ownership

    MacBook Pro fan bearing

I've got an extremely noisy fan in my MacBook Pro. It's pretty obvious the bearing has gone. Replacement is the simple solution I hear you say. BUT, I have to hand over the computer for a turnaround perion of up to ten days (quoted). Apple won't allow any service centre to order the part unless...
